Contents and methodology (LTE overview
is provided as part of module 6 (3GPP
TS 23.401/23.402
R11))
60 minutes on the basics of
SIP QoS Control in the 3GPP environment (3GPP PCC). This may help
you to:
(a) Get a feel for SIP QoS
Control (3GPP PCC)
via a quick tutorial.
(b) See a put-it-all-together example of PCC
in IMS/FMC based network.
(c) Get brief explanations about the
key/latest PCC specifications and references to them.
(d) Learn about LTE and the way PCC fits in
(key roles of PCC in the LTE network).
Intended audience
Any person interested in
SIP QoS Control (3GPP PCC) and/or Internet Telephony
Prerequisites
Minimal SIP/IMS knowledge is
assumed/required
Outline
Module
1 - What PCC is
Definition and basic 3GPP PCC Release 9 architecture
Module
2 - The scope of PCC
What networks are covered (e.g. IMS, LTE, Home versus visited)
Module
3 - The PCC specifications
Brief explanations about the key/latest PCC
specifications and references to them
Module 4 - Why PCC is needed
The key reasoning behind it. Who needs it (Hint:
operators, ISPs, us (the users))
Module 5 - PCC concepts
Key PCC concepts are
illustrated via the difference between PCRF (dynamic=a
must in the new dynamic environment) and AAA (static=not enough anymore),
and via the way the PCRF (master) can work with DPI (Data
Packet Inspection) (slave).
Module 6 - LTE overview + How PCC works with LTE and SIP/IMS
PCC is illustrated via the
LTE network as well as via SIP/IMS app running on top of it. As a by product, this module provides an overview of LTE
(and a little refresh for SIP/IMS/FMC).
Module 7 - PCC dictionary
Abbreviations of key PCC terms / a window into the 3GPP
PCC jargon
